We almost finished up the Jack and Jill bathroom... the toilet is installed... but we have to caulk and fix some spackle issues on the ceiling...
The Princess bathroom is also almost done... We have finished the tile, grouted the tile, sealed the tile, installed the vanity, faucets, and tonight Tommy did the baseboard heat while I cleaned the tub of all the glue that was in it... ugh... I also changed the color of the bathroom... the original color that I had picked and painted turned out to be the exact same color as the tile... the room was just too monotone so I changed the walls from a mauve to a cream... looks much better and brightens the bathroom...
The powder room is also almost done... We have recently finished the tile in that bathroom... It was a last minute decision to do it one night... we had originally planned on putting slate on the floor in that bathroom, but after thinking about how much of a pain in the @$$ it would be to clean it, we went to Lowes and picked out a very light beige marble with green and orange tones... LOVE IT... Since it was natural stone we were able to cut the 12 x 12 tiles in half and quarters and made a nice pattern... no long straight lines in our house :P Then we decided to put wainscot in the bathroom... I picked it up with some paint and Amy came over one day and started it for me... I finished and then Tommy and I installed it one day... It is all caulked, puttied and painted... The vanity is in the bathroom, but needs to be hooked up... and the mirror is hung... LOVE how it looks.
I started working on putting in all the switches, but Tom's dad is fixing them up... I did something wrong by tying all neutrals together even if they are different feeds... apparently a NoNo that I can't grasp the concept of so he will fix the ones I wired for me... He is also installing all the outlets... the outlet wires are all #12 and it is a little too difficult for me to work with... This past Sunday he was working on the outlets in the garage... He got the all installed and then hooked it up to the panel box... But half the garage wasn't working and a majority of the switches were in line and all on the same circuit even though I ran wire for an A and B circuit (every other switch is A and the others are B circuit)... First Tommy blamed his dad for not chosing the right outlet as the GFI and causing the issue... then he blamed me for crossing the A and B and not running a feeder to the side of the garage not working... But I brought out the laptop with all of the pictures we took of the walls before the insulation and sheetrock were installed... Guess what? There were 4 boxes that never got cut out by the sheetrockers... After those were found it all works!!!! wooh!!
Tom's mom came down one day with the truck to help us out... First, because we got more discount appliances from Home Depot... A cooktop and a dishwasher, the deal essentially got us the dishwasher for free!!! So we took the truck to pick that up... and then she loaded up the HUGE pile of cardboard in the garage and we took it to the recycling center. We have a garage again...
Tommy went one night to Edison to start removing all his bigger tools from the shed... His dad and Mr. Markowski helped him load the bandsaw, planer, sanding table and air compressor onto the truck... The next day we cleaned up the garage and put everything in its place... Then they ran wires for the 220 power that the tools need...
I painted the kitchen green... Love the color...
Tommy finished the baseboard heat in the office... We also found out that the thermostat in the family room can't stay mounted where it is... Unfortunately baseboard copper pipes are running up to the second floor right in that wall and the thermostat thinks the downstairs is warmer than it really is... One day the upstairs was about 60 degrees and the thermostat said downstairs was 60 also... but it was FREEZING downstairs... after a little investigation we discovered the problem... crap!
Painted most of the downstairs half of the Foyer this past Saturday night... thought I could live with the color but decided I couldn't... bought different paint and repainted it on Sunday... haha... the first color was orangy beige and i wanted just a very neutral beige beige but you have no idea how hard it is to pick BEIGE... I am having a similar problem in the dining room... The color that it is now is too light... I want it to a darker beige, but not peach, not orange, not yellow, not grey... just BEIGE... haha wish me luck!!!
Painted the curved wall in the master bedroom the same blue green as the sitting room... looks good...needs another coat though since I touched up some of the spackle...
Almost all the doors are hung... There is one in the Jack and Jill bathroom that needs to be removed because it swings the wrong way... so we are going to switch it with the one going to the attic... and then I think there is one more closet door and the master bedroom door...
We started thinking about molding... We spent about two nights trying to figure it out... searching online and at the bookstore... Found what we want and Mark gave a reference for a lumberyard with really great prices... We might hold off on the trim though and do the kitchen floor next... but what kind of tile do I want... At first I wanted to do Travertine... and still kind of do... but I read that since it is natural stone it needs to be sealed because if you spill anything acidic like vinegar or orange juice it will stain... so Andre said we should use a porcelain tile because it is very durable... but then you can't do ANY pattern you want like you could with natural stone (you can cut the natural stone in different sized pieces but with the chamfered edge of regular tile you really can't do that)... Hmm decisions decisions!!! And then I have no idea what countertop but what if I pick a tile that doesn't look good with the countertop I want... We will have to look at countertops just to get an idea of what we want... Well I know what i want but I don't know if it exists... I want a granite top that is beige/brown, but on the lighter side with green undertones in it... I also want it to be un-uniform... I don't want it to be small speckles... I want veins and splotches... something with character... does that granite exist???
So that is about it... We just keep chugging along... :)
