VERSAILLE PATTERN

Tonight Tommy worked on putting the versaille pattern quartzite on inside the border I put up yesterday. We thought the pencil was hard to do but this is heavier so it was even more difficult, but Tommy managed to get a majority of it installed.

Tonight I put the tile on the long wall outside the shower...

Hooper is the Polka-Dot Bandit!!! He steals everything! I opened some of the pencils, they come with a piece of cardboard on the back and wrapped in plastic. Hooper went in and out of the bathroom stealing all the pieces. First he looks at you to see if you notice him, then he sneakily picks the piece up and he hurries on out... Too funny!

TUB TILE II

Tonight I worked on putting the pencil border on the kerdi surrounding the four jets on the shower wall. It was a PAIN IN THE BUTT!!! The mortar that you need to use for the kerdi needs to be a little sloppy but then they slide all over... so a little tape and some help from Tommy were needed to get the job done.

At the same time Tommy worked on the travertine tile on the top of the tub deck. Because we left the irregular pattern of the tumbled stone on either end of the tub we had to make a cardboard template and Tommy successfully cut out the crazy shaped tiles. I have to say it turned out better than I expected

TUMBLED STONE

Today we worked in the shower laying tile. We used 12"x12" mats of a tumbled stone on the top of the bench, on the wall above the bench and on the ceiling around the waterfall. It ties everything together and allowed us to have an irregular pattern on the ceiling so we only had to do enough to cover the area around the waterfall feature. We worked on the bench and wall tile together and then Tommy finished up the floor tile outside the shower while I worked on putting up the ceiling.

KERDI on the BENCH

Today we drove back from the shorehouse and took a nap...even Hooper couldn't keep his eyes open... We did get up though and did some work on the tile in the master bathroom. Tommy worked on the Kerdi some more, he put all the kerdi on the bench in the shower. Meanwhile I put 3" long strips of the "crown" tile along the outside curved wall and then finished up a majority of that subway style tile.

CURVED WALL TILE

I have this entire week off at work so I was home by myself again. Today I tackled the tile on the curved wall. First I put the 2"x2" border on the bottom with the small pencil. We bought mats of a subway type pattern in the quartzite stone. We intended to put the subway pattern horizontally but when I put them on some of the pieces were too long for the curving wall, they didn't sit properly and sort of stuck out... So I removed the few pieces I had put up and instead put them in a vertical orientation. I was afraid Tommy wouldn't like it but it turned out to look great.

TUB TILE

Today I was home from work by myself. I worked on the tub area. First I cut up the mats of the tumbled rock and glued them individually to the front portion of the tub deck... that took quite some time and the mat is some sort of fiberglass so it gets itchy! Then I started using the leftover tile chunks (approximately 1.5" x 3") and tiled the front of the tub.

When Tommy got home I started to work on a short wall right when you walk in the door to the bathroom. Tommy worked on the kerdi. He worked on the top ledge of the curved wall which was quite a bit of work but it turned out great and definitely helped smooth it out and define the curve.

MASTER BATH - KERDI and WALL TILE

Today Tommy worked some more on the kerdi for the shower... and I finished up the walls in the toilet room and did a small wall in the main room... Tommy helped me with some of the cuts to speed things along...

We had a few visitors today... A. Brenda and the boys came to pick up Duke, so sad :(... and Tom's Aunt and Uncle came with Babcia and his dad with some good dinner... it was a nice and needed break!

MASTER BATH - KERDI and WALL TILE - DAY 1

Today Tommy started the Kerdi in the master bathroom. Since we have the walk in shower we need this waterproof membrane to seal it so it doesn't leak... so Tommy makes a really soupy mixture of mud and slaps it on... then he has to spread it out and make sure it is bonding, overlapping each joint...etc.

I got a tutorial on cutting tile on the saw and I was off to work on the wall tile in the toilet room. I was able to get about 50% done today. It is coming out rather nicely.
