Tommy worked on the first stair landing today... It is the curved one so it wasn't fun. First he had to shim up shim up the staircase and then he laid the flooring... He could only go so far and then he used a template to route the curved edge... And then glue down the nosing... It looks great.
Then he worked on the curve on the bridge... He made a template for the curve and set it up in the right position... then he had the fun job of routing the Brazilian cherry.
I vacuumed up the entire upstairs... Then I cleaned the up the Jack & Jill Bathroom and the two J&J bedrooms.. I wiped down all the moldings and the doors from the dust... cleaned off the window sills... and the radiators, and then wiped down the walls... cleaned off the glass for the light fixtures and wiped down the bathroom vanity... Just need to clean the windows, both inside and out. And I hung up the sconces in the master bedroom.

ICY MORNING...
On Saturday Tom's parents and his uncle came down. His dad and uncle worked in the basement... they sanded the other coats of spackle and put on another coat... everything is looking good... one more sanding and light coat of spackle when this dries and we are ready for primer and paint!
Tom's mom worked on painting... she painted each of the closets and cleaned up the paint and then she went around with ceiling paint and made some touch-ups... she won't let me take pictures though...
I puttied and caulked the entrance to the sitting room....
Tom's dad picked up the stair nosing yesterday from the stair guy so Tom worked on installing that today... it looks nice!

LONG DAY
I would say today was one of the longest days of my life... haha... i guess after the midweek break from work yesterday it dragged a little.
Tom's dad was at the house today... He put another coat of spackle in the basement... then he kinked the basement wall at the bottom of the stairs... When we had the stairs made a while ago we asked the stair guy to flair them so that it wouldn't be so closed in... so he moved that wall and installed the stairs... it looks good... Then he came upstairs and put sheetrock inside that little nook between the kitchen and family room. We have decided that we at least want the option to be able to put the entertainment center on that wall and with that nook the wall wouldn't be long enough for that.
We got home super late from work because of traffic. Tommy moved the fridge and re-hooked up the water...We think we may move its location again... We are trying to figure out the final layout for the kitchen appliances and we are having a hard time... It seems like wherever we put things the kitchen seems cramped or closed off... so we will leave it in its new location for a while and see how we like it.

This Week...
We have been cutting tile most of the week... for the bathroom walls we needed to cut 4"x4" tiles out of 12"x12" tiles we got from Home Depot...
Tom's parents have been here a few times this week as well. Tom's dad built temporary stairs out of the sliding glass door and then he put finished stairs from the garage into the kitchen... everything looks nice...
Tom's mom has been working on the weeds... there are a lot of them

SHEETROCK ON STAIRS
I was in Charleston for work from Mon-Weds so while I was away Tommy worked on finishing up the staircase. He finished installing them, finished the walls under the open side, and then started to put up the sheetrock.
One night his mom came down and brought us some more trees that were dirt cheap at Lowes.

Looks like Hooper watched and gathered the laundry!!!

ODD JOBS
Tom worked on building the walls underneath the stairs.
I cleaned up the basement a little and put some of the hi-hat covers on the ceiling.
Tom's dad started to put together a sprinkler system. One manifold for the front of the house and another for the back that we can use to water the plants.
His mom worked on pulling out these really huge rooted weeds from the front lawn. We should have taken them out with the backhoe before we got the harley rake, but who knew that the harley rake didn't maul them enough to kill them.

STAIRS
Today we worked on installing the stairs. We started in the morning with the basement staircase. We had to build the landing for the 2nd portion of the basement stairs and put some hardwood on that landing. We left the bottom set off because we want to open up the wall in the basement after inspections so we had the stair builder make them flare on one side. We can't move the wall yet so we will just put a temporary set there for now. We need hardwood on the top landing, but we ran out. They came out really nice.
In the afternoon his dad was over so he helped Tom install the main staircase in the foyer. Those stairs are much much heavier so I was of little help. They got them installed and they came out really nice. They are not completely secured yet so we will have to finish them up.

MOLDING
On Saturday we did quite a bit of work. Tommy worked on cutting and routing all the material for the rest of the window/door tops while I worked on caulking the coiffered ceiling in the office. We finished each of those jobs at the same time so we worked together on building the window/door tops. Tommy cut all the crown while I nailed it all together. We got it all finished by 7pm and then we got to go hang out for the night.
Sunday we got back to the house and I worked on puttying and caulking the window/door tops. Meanwhile Tommy took apart two that I put together wrong and cut new (larger) crown for the window tops that are going to be going over the arched windows in the family room. When we put them over the windows the first day with the small crown it disappeared, so we stopped at Home Depot and got 2" crown. It looks much better that way!
Before we left on Sunday we put the first set of finished stairs up to see what it looked like. Love it! They look so great. Can't wait to get them installed!

STAIR DELIVERY
The stairs were delivered today. They were supposed to be delivered last saturday but something happened with one of the stairs so we postponed to Sat the 27th... but today at 3:15 he called me and asked if anyone was at the house. Nope, not yet... still at work, but I can be there in 1.5 hours... so I left work and stopped at the bank (the bank teller was WEIRD)... Got to the house in time to clean up the one side of the garage and the truck came. We offloaded them into the garage and wow the stairs for the first to second floor are HEAVY compared to the staircase for the basement. The first to second floor stairs are very nice. We got brazillian cherry treads poplar risers(i think) so the treads will just be cleared and the risers will be painted white. One minor problem I realized after he left is that the bottom set of stairs was supposed to be curved stairs and flaired on the right side... He didn't make the flair... they look gorgeous but that isn't what we asked for so I am going to call him tomorrow and see what he can do... He is a really nice guy so I have no doubt that he will fix it for us.
Afterwords I caulked the crown in the powder room and the windows in the office...
